Together, Nyerere National Park (formerly known as Selous Reserve) and Ruaha National Park make up the area which is often referred to as southern Tanzania. They’re among the largest reserves in the whole world and with their variety of landscapes, they offer a mix of the best of eastern and southern Africa.
They also offer an unparalleled sense of space: vast, uncrowded and quiet. The animals are more spread out, so you might have to work a bit harder for your wildlife. But we think that’s so much more rewarding than simply driving into a field full of it.
Because they encompass both river and wildlife adventures, we tend to recommend them to second-time safari goers (or first timers looking for something a little bit different). You could even include a spot of beach lounging by adding Zanzibar to your itinerary.
