Most safaris in northern Tanzania start and end in Arusha: a lush, green town near the foot of Mount Meru. We love how quintessentially African it is. The streets are alive with the buzz of safari vehicles, Boda Boda motorbikes, food stalls, sidewalk barbers – even chickens, cows and Mbuzi goats.
While we’re fans of the melee, we think it’s a good idea to stay on the outskirts of town. There are some seriously special lodges that way and it makes escaping the hubbub a little easier when it’s time to set off on your safari.
