Giving Back
While staying at Ulusaba you might take the opportunity to visit Pride ‘N’ Purpose for a minimal fee - and we'd highly recommend that you do. The charity was established in 2003 by members of the Ulusaba family to help improve the lives of those in the communities adjacent to the Sabi Sand Reserve. They focus principally on orphaned and vulnerable children, early education, food security, job creation, health and wellness and the provision of clean water. It is estimated they now benefit over 35,000 people across six communities.
Guests can spend a morning playing with gorgeous school children who are just so happy - when we visited we gave them sweets, sang nursery rhymes and generally did what children love to do most - play. There was no mention of iPads or Playstations, which was liberating. The children were just happy to see us and try on our sun glasses (simple pleasures!).
If you're planning to do this, may we also suggest that you take over any old clothes, shoes or other useful items that you and yours no longer need - the project staff will gladly accept them and distribute them among the community.
