All about safari - part 2

Everything you ever wanted to know about safari but were afraid to ask

All about Safari Part 2

10. Do I have to eat game meat ?
Some lodges will serve game meat but there is always a choice. Once you have booked your safari we will ask if you have any dietary requirements which we send through to the lodge before your arrival. Lodges are located in remote locations and whilst they endeavour to be as flexible as possible, it helps them to know any specific dietary requirements or requests before you arrive.

11. I like the idea of a safari, but I also like great food and a good spa experience - must I choose?
Don’t panic.

There are lodges that are very game focused and there are lodges that also have amazing spas and award-winning food. This is exactly the kind of thing we can assist you with when you plan your trip. We know all the lodges personally and are able to advise on the suitable differences that websites don’t always highlight. Royal Malewane in the Thornybush Reserve just outside of the Kruger has an award-winning spa (and it also happens to be the lodge of choice for a couple of A-list celebs!).

12. Will I return with a collection of leopard print scarves and a safari-chic wardrobe?
Without doubt.

If you're anything like us, after one of my extended trips in Africa I returned with Masai beads, Samburu bangles, khaki caps and enough leopard print to recreate my safari experience!

13. I am a total gym bunny – where can I keep fit?
Fear not many lodges have great gyms and if they don’t have a gym they often include a ‘gym in a bag’ in your room complete with skipping rope and yoga mat.

Stay at Richards Camp in the Masai Mara and you can go running with one of the guides – he loves running and even won the Masai Mara Marathon recently.

14. Where is the most drop dead selfie friendly view on safari?

There are simply too many to mention. Our current favourite is Angama Mara on the edge of the Oloololo Escarpment in the Masai Mara.

15. I want to go somewhere to impress the neighbours?
We think they’re going to be pretty impressed by your photos, your experiences and your stories when you return. We wager that they didn’t expect the places you stayed in to be so luxurious and service-orientated.

16. Do I need a pair of binoculars?
They’re not necessary – and a lot of lodges and camps put them on the vehicles for you. We do however suggest you take a pair, it can help you work out if you're looking at a lion or a termite mound - and they do complement your khaki outfit.

17. I’m no Bear Grylls – how long should I go on safari for?
If this is your first safari and you are not entirely convinced this is for you - then perhaps start with a 3 or 4 day safari and ease yourself into the idea. We guarantee you will be back for more next time.

18. Yeah yeah – I’ve done lots of safaris – I need something new and exciting?
Fly camping under the stars in the Selous exciting enough for you?

Flying with your private guide into Namibia’s skeleton coast. Canoeing and walking in a private concession in Botswana’s Selinda Reserve. We are always the first to hear about something new and exciting, we positively rise to the challenge of finding you something you might not have heard of!
