Zuri Zanzibar is Zanzibar’s first five-star lifestyle resort. It’s also set on the only non-tidal beach on the island, which means it’s on one of the few beaches you can swim at (the tide in Zanzibar goes out so far and comes in so close that the sea is usually either too near to the resort or too far away for swimming.)
Of its 55 stunning bungalows, suites and villas, each one is close to the turquoise waters of the Indian Ocean and most have ocean views. They’re filled with contemporary furnishings, African artwork and are designed in such a way as to respect local culture and crafts at the same time as considering their environmental impact.
We find the bungalows quite cosy: if you’re looking for more space go for one of the suites with big private terraces, extended living areas and private Jacuzzis. Villas are the next step up – the two-bed villa faces the ocean and the three-bed villa has its own private beach and infinity pool.
