Walk with meerkats. Sleep beneath hundreds of twinkling stars. Perhaps strike it lucky and see aardvark and pangolin. From the moment your light aircraft arrives at Tswalu Kalahari, you know you’re in for something very special.
The malaria-free territory stretches on forever with open savannas, dunes and massive hills unlike any others in South Africa.
A private guide and vehicle mean that you set your own safari pace, leaving it up to you to decide how much time you want to spend watching the meerkats, observing lions or looking for the endangered black rhino – you can even explore the reserve on foot and stop for a picnic en route if the fancy takes you.
And the idyllic lodges are second to none. The Motse has just 9 gorgeous, spacious suites while Tarkuni Homestead works perfectly for family groups. Something to be savoured is the superbly theatrical fine dining experience served up at the Klein Jan Restaurant.
We warn you, though: one visit just won’t be enough.
I could not fault the service, the staff were friendly, efficient, nothing was too much trouble and I just loved watching the meerkats! The accommodation was pretty special too and when I return, I will be sure to book a night at the Malori sleep out.
