There are warm welcomes and then there are Thorntree River Lodge welcomes.
When you arrive here, you’re greeted with a shoulder massage using a wooden stick. We think it sets the tone for the rest of your stay perfectly: this is a place to relax, unwind and feel your shoulders drop.
It’s a relatively new property that combines the feel of a boutique hotel and the romance of a safari lodge. The look is very designer with a grown up colour palette of dark browns and greys. There’s a riverside terrace, dining room and bar, plus a communal pool with a shallow end that’s perfect for dipping your toes in.
The river-facing suites have tented roofs and large sliding glass doors, so they feel rustic and solid at the same time. Each has a sitting area, a big bathroom, private pool, sunken deck and outside space. They really do think of everything at Thorntree – they even remember to leave some lemon in your room for your sundowner gin and tonic.
