Shumba Camp is off the beaten track. If you look hard, you’ll find it in the northern reaches of Zambia’s oldest and largest National Park. It doesn’t make it onto most people’s itineraries as it’s not as accessible as other parks in Zambia. And the experience you have there is all the richer for it.
It’s in the middle of the endless and wild Busanga Plains, an area known for its lion prides and game.
There are only six tents, set on raised decks and linked by wooden walkways that lead to the main dining and bar area, pool and traditional boma.
The activities you do here will vary depending on the time of year that you visit. In June and July the floodplains are filled with water, making it perfect for boating. Between August and October, you can hot air balloon for an extra cost.
Whatever the season, if you’re looking for that remote feeling and want a peek into areas not everyone gets to see, this is the place for you.
